There are 200+ ghost towns in Arizona. These are places that once thrived - then declined for various reasons - and were eventually abandoned and in many cases left to ruin.

During the late 1800s Arizona was quickly expanding with booming industries - many related to mining and railroad expansion - populated in a large part by immigrants from around the world. Working conditions could be perilous and this coupled with a prevalence of disease, harsh living conditions and other 'wild west' type hardships meant that life was often a struggle. Eventually due to innovation and changes in process many locations closed and the workers moved on leaving behind the structures and spaces they once called home.

The passage of time has left its effect on these places. There are no trace left of some - while others leave an impression of what once was. A few have been regenerated into something new.

At this time Arizona does not have a positive record of protecting these types of historical monuments - and this in combination with severe climate conditions has resulted in an accelerated level of decay and destruction.

This is a sonic exploration of space, environment, decay and memory using location recordings and personal interpretations of these places. My goal is to raise awareness of their plight and leave current documentation relating to these sites.

There is also a photographic and video exhibit related to this project.
